Description:

Intercultural competence is often viewed as core to international higher education. Moreover, intercultural competence stands at the intersection of international education and JEDI (Justice, Equity, Diversity, Inclusion). This course explores key definitions and concepts related to intercultural competence, as well as practical application including development and assessment of this key concept.

Timeline and Requirements:

The course will take place from May 24 - June 7, 2022. This series is presenter-led and is a fully online experience. Course meetings will be conducted synchronously online via Zoom from 11:00am - 1:00pm (ET) on May 24th, and 4:00pm - 6:00pm on June 6th and 7th. 

Fees & Policies:

Payment is due by credit card at registration. Registration closes May 23rd at 5pm. Refunds will be granted only up until registration closes at 5pm on May 23rd. No refunds will be granted for registration or technical errors on the participant's part (such as incorrect name/email, login failure, etc.).

Presenter:

Darla K. Deardorff is Executive Director of Association of International Education Administrators (AIEA) and holds faculty appointments at several universities around the world. She has conducted cross-cultural training for universities, companies and non-profit organizations for over 30 years and is editor/author of 11 books and over 60+ books chapters, with her most recent publications being the open access Manual on Developing Intercultural Competence: Story Circles (Routledge/UNESCO, 2020) and The Handbook of International Higher Education, 2nd edition (Stylus, 2021) co-edited with Hans de Wit, Betty Leask and Harvey Charles. She is regularly invited to give talks and workshops around the world and serves as an advisor for the OECD, UNESCO, and other global organizations.
